Reedy Fork Elementary School has these little birdhouses hanging from the trees at their front entrance.

I recently visited Reedy Fork Elementary School to volunteer, it was my first time there and I was pleasantly surprised. What I found was a great school, with great staff, nestled in the middle of the Reedy Fork neighborhood. Based on the articles that were hanging on the wall, Reedy Fork is a school that does some wonderful things for our children and our environment.

Reedy Fork has 85,856 square feet and includes classrooms for 725 students plus dining, multi-purpose room, science, art, music, computer, media center and administration facilities. The school uses a rainwater harvesting system to reduce water consumption throughout the school. Rainwater is collected from the roof area of the school and stored in a 45,000-gallon underground storage tank. The rainwater is then pumped from the tank to the school, filtered, chlorinated, dyed light blue and used for flushing each toilet in the school. By using rainwater for toilet flushing, the school is able to save over 767,000 gallons of water that would otherwise be purchased from the City of Greensboro, representing 94% of the water used for toilet flushing each year.

Early College at Guilford

 

 

 

 

The Early College at Guilford is just one of the many options available to high school students within Guilford County. ECG was established in 2002 as North Carolina's first early college high school. Created through a public and private partnership between Guilford County Schools and Guilford College. ECG is among a growing body of early entrance schools across the nation designed to provide a seamless transition to higher education.

The mission of ECG is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by providing exceptionally challenging opportunities that support academic development at the highest standards.

Students take honors and AP courses in grades 9&10 and college courses in grades 11&12. Service learning and community connections are also a core element of the curriculum.

Wafco Mills

 

I couldn't find much history of Wafco Mills online ~ but now I'm intrigued and will head down to the Greensboro Public Library ~ but obviously, they produced cornmeal, feed and flour. This building is located adjacent to the Weaver Academy, a high school and in close proximity to UNCG and Greensboro College. Wafco Mills and its adjoining land is now home to 108 privately built condominiums. Hmmmm.......I'd love to live in a building like this ~ rich with history and dripping with ambiance!
